Vertical Stripes Can Be Slimming (VOL008)

I was told by a good friend one time that I looked better in a bowling shirt than I did in my rugby style polo shirt. She said that the vertically lined bowling shirt made me look like a taller and slimmer person, whereas the polo shirt made me look like a walking version of the flight of the bumble bee gone wild.

Parallel Columns in Your Document

Parallel columns are usually shorter than newspaper columns, and are visually more horizontal. Parallel columns require column breaks and more section breaks than Newspaper columns. They are harder to maintain, but can be very effective in some documents. We will explain how to set them up in this tip:

This week’s focus area is Business Communication. Communication is important to everyone. Quality communication can make the sale or get the contract. In today’s business world, we communicate in a variety of ways: sending e-mail, exchanging documents in many electronic formats, calling people directly, using handheld computing devices, holding tele conferences, and running webinars. How well our message is expressed is based on a variety of factors. In this issue, we will look at an area that is only sporadically dealt with, and often requires quite a bit more care – spelling and the words we use.
