There is only one valid reason a business spends money and that is to make money. It is called ROI. Two significant expenses for most businesses are knowledge workers and the technologies to make them more productive. The ROI for computers, software and handheld devices is that they allow knowledge workers to do things more quickly, do things more effectively and do things they just couldn’t have done otherwise.

I'll Take That to Go (VOL004)

You know, I found myself out at lunch the other day at one of those fast food restaurants. You know, one of those where you wait ten minutes for that “fast food”. While I was waiting, I thought back to a conversation I had with a friend at work, where we were discussing those products and fads from the 1980′s. You know, things like the Rubik’s Cube, Boom Boxes, Break Dancing, and Trapper Keepers. We started noticing that as we get older, these things never really go away, we just replaced them with upgrades. Like for instance, the Rubik’s Cube became Sudoku, Boom Boxes became iPods, Break Dancing — well, that one sort of came back again, and Trapper Keepers were replaced with Day Planners. (more…)

Safely Remove USB Drive When Icon is Missing

Sometimes when using your USB (Universal Serial Bus) drive, the Safely Remove Hardware icon is missing from the system tray. If you have your USB optimization option set to “Optimized for Performance”, then you will need to use one of these other methods to remove your drive. If you are not sure what your settings are, err on the side of “Optimized for Performance” and use one of these methods. (more…)
